Two chopsticks were found in the skull of a man in Vietnam. This 35-year-old patient was complaining of severe headaches for several days. After this, he reached Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi on 25 November for a checkup. Here the doctors did a CT scan of him and they came to know that the patient was suffering from tension pneumocephalus. This is a rare but fatal disease.
When doctors did many other tests regarding this disease, they found chopsticks in the patient’s skull. These had reached his brain through his nose. When the patient was told about this, he himself was surprised. But later he told that this happened 5 months ago during a fight in a bar.
The patient believes that the man in the bar attacked him with chopsticks. It remained in his skull for the next 5 months. Because of this, his headache continued to increase. At present, doctors have removed the chopsticks by doing endoscopy. After this, the fistula was closed through microsurgery.
The fistula is a connection between the arteries and veins present in the brain and spinal cord. The patient is out of danger and will be discharged soon. The head of the Neurosurgery Department at the hospital has described it as one of the rarest cases of his life.
