Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a flight in a Tejas fighter plane in Bengaluru on Saturday, November 25. The PM said, “The sortie in Tejas was successful. It was an amazing experience. This flight has increased my confidence in the country’s indigenous capabilities.”
The PM also wrote, “Today, I can proudly say that due to our hard work and dedication, we are second to none in the world in the field of self-reliance. Congratulations to the Indian Air Force, DRDO, and HAL, as well as all the people of India.”
Before taking flight in Tejas, Modi also visited Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Bengaluru. HAL has developed Tejas, a lightweight combat aircraft with a single engine. It has already been included in the Air Force with two squadrons.
According to officials, an order worth 36,468 crores has been given to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the delivery of 83 Light Combat Aircraft MK 1A Tejas jets during the Modi government. Their delivery will begin by February 2024.
They also said that approval has been given for the development of an updated and more lethal version, LCA MK2, for a cost of 9,000 crores.
